The true measure of a life...

...is more substantial than time passing in hours or years. These pages attempt to articulate those things that have been more substantial than time in my life. My intention is a bit of personal nostalgia, as well as to share some unique (albeit biased) slices of information on travel, music, photography, art, wine and business.

Mark Twain is credited with the quote, "80% of success is just showing up." I believe that all really big human opportunities are fleeting. This website highlights what I made a point of showing up for and the opportunities I took. Please don't misunderstand. It is not about saying things ended up okay, because my life is not always "okay", nor has it yet "ended up" in any way. I look forward to the next twists and turns. Instead, this site is my way of sharing some of what I have become and saying thank you to people who made a difference by helping me along the way.

One secret of happiness....

I recently advised my teenage sons that one secret of happiness was to make the small mistakes (they give life its zest), avoid the big mistakes, and ensure you know the difference before it is too late. Some special people helped point me away from big mistakes while we shared the rich experience of some small ones. I hope the memories in this website bring you a smile.

Too much is left unsaid....

This site was inspired by a story my father told me in January 2002. One evening while watching TV at home, he received a call from an acquaintance, Mike, whom he hadn't heard from in over 50 years. Mike called to thank my father for helping him understand how to take tests when they were both in college. Mike credited that advice with allowing him to succeed and graduate, changing his whole life for the better.
